Freshman and New Band Parents Page
Click here for our Tips for Freshman Parents
First and foremost – Welcome, we are excited that you are here!
The Directors, Captains, Members, Boosters and Parents of the Osbourn Park High School Marching Band and Color Guard would like to extend a warm welcome to you and your student. We want your experience with us to be valuable, rewarding and satisfying for both you and your child. The Band Boosters make every effort to keep you informed of the opportunities and expectations that are associated with participation in the band and guard. We greatly appreciate the effort, expense, and time you and your child will need to contribute to participate in this rich and rewarding experience.
During the first year in Band, many parents are unsure of what to expect, where they can help, how much time is required and most of all how much this is going to cost them! Lots of parents, new and returning, want to be involved but aren’t sure of where to find information.
This page is provided answers to those “unknowns” that we all experienced as the parents of freshman or new band members. Please use our website as one of your major communication tools because it is the quickest way to disperse information to our organization. We are also available by phone, email or during game days if you need assistance.
Parents should not shy away from the Band Boosters. Contrary to popular belief, we are not “super-parents” who spend all of our time at the school! We are simply band parents who want to be involved. Like you, many of us hold full time jobs with after school activities with siblings, etc. The responsibilities associated with your much-needed and much-appreciated participation in Band Boosters is essential to the success of the band and guard. You may have questions such as: “Why are the fees necessary?”, “Why do we have to do fundraising?”, “Why are you always seeking volunteers?” These are very legitimate questions that have crossed everyone’s mind. The answer is really pretty simple. The Osbourn Park High School Marching Band and Color Guard is an organization of over 65 members who require leadership, transportation, new uniforms (our current ones are 25 years old!), music, training, competitions, choreography, band camp, meals, snacks, concerts, recognition dinners, regional events and awards! It requires commitment, dedication, and participation by both your child and yourself. Make no mistake that every participant wants to have fun, but also to field the highest quality band and guard that can be achieved. Band parents and band boosters will have a huge impact on the success of our band and guard. We invite you to make a commitment now of a small or hopefully large amount of your valuable time to help our Marching Band be the very best they can become.
Here are just some of the opportunities you have to be involved:
• Check out our website for supporting positions that have been vacated by other parents who may be leaving the organization. Some positions can be shared!
• Sign up and help serve meals on game day.
• Help hand out drinks during the game or event.
• Chaperone the band trip.
• Participate fully in our fundraising events. They are so important.
• Attend the band boosters meetings. They are held the second Wednesday of each month.
Check our website on a regular basis, especially during the fall football season and just prior to band camp in August. This is when the flurry of activity begins.
